Job Summary

We are seeking an individual for the position of Chemical Project Engineer. This position involves planning, scheduling, progress, and difficulties encountered on projects or work assignments. Requires knowledge and involvement with plant maintenance, energy usage, backup utility systems, chemical systems, process control systems, instrumentation, and equipment used throughout the plant such as kettle reactors, mixers, grinders, rolls, and extruders.

Responsibilities

· Oversees and coordinates daily activities of Phenol Recovery operation. Reviews Resin production schedules and checks on daily activities to determine Phenol Recovery requirements. Informs Phenol Recovery Operators of Resin Department activities that will affect Phenol Recovery operations. Assists with training new Phenol Recovery Operators.

· Troubleshoots Phenol Recovery processing problems. Contacts any departments or personnel necessary to assist with determining the cause and to correct the problem.

· Acquires and maintains working knowledge of Company equipment and processing procedures to provide insight and expertise for possible improvements and to optimize processes in assigned areas. Conceives and submits ideas to Manager of Plant Engineering for improvements to quality, safety, productivity, and cost reduction initiatives.

· Manages engineering projects assigned, including design, specifications, approvals, equipment and material purchases, installation and startup. Guides Technicians and Maintenance personnel with specific instructions during all project phases. Maintains project priorities based on Company goals and requirements.

· Conducts engineering studies and research to determine the feasibility of projects or process modifications as specifically assigned. Studies may include collaboration on energy conservation, environmental controls and regulatory matters.

· Makes cost analysis of projects, writes specifications, estimates labor and material requirements to install and complete projects. Submits a range of products and equipment designed to perform the process, operation, or system task, listing advantages and disadvantages with options and prices. Concludes with a professional recommendation.

· Makes engineering sketches which can be used as working drawings. Communicates with draftsmen to make finished prints.

· Works with Safety, Production, and Engineering in all aspects of developing and maintaining safety controls and programs, including Process Safety Management, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA’s), safety training, etc. Reviews and keeps all PHA requirements current. Provides system and processing expertise in development of programs. Suggests ideas to Safety Manager for additional safety training or programs to improve safety or address issues or concerns. Ensures that all systems and controls are designed, installed and used with safety as the first priority.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

· 3 years of work experience required

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience with Foxboro’s I/A or EVO distributed process control system highly desired

· Proficient with MS Office. AutoCAD

· Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality system processes and requirements

· Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and methodologies within chemical engineering

· Effective verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects

· Ability to work as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision
