Health and Safety Coordinator – Prosser, WA

The Health and Safety Coordinator for Ackley Brands will oversee and implement workplace safety programs, compliance protocols, and quality control measures specific to winery and brewery operations. This individual will ensure alignment with regulatory standards, including FDA compliance, organic certification (CCOF), and biodynamic certification (Demeter). The coordinator will promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement across multiple facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety Compliance
•  Develop, implement, and monitor safety protocols for winery an brewery operations, including equipment handling, chemical storage, and bottling / canning processes.
•  Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, FDA guidelines, and state/local workplace safety standards.
•  Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
•  Coordinate training programs for staff on health and safety policies, including emergency response plans and safe practices.

Regulatory Oversight
•  Maintain current knowledge of FDA requirements for winery facilities and ensure all processes meet or exceed these standards.
•  Guide the winery facilities in maintaining certifications for organic (CCOF) and biodynamic (Demeter) operations, ensuring adherence to specific guidelines for each certification.
•  Manage documentation and records related to regulatory compliance, including food safety plans, chemical use logs, and audit results.
•  Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and certification bodies during inspections and audits.

Facility and Equipment Safety
•  Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure equipment is properly maintained and safe to operate.
•  Develop protocols for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, including sanitizing agents and fermentation byproducts.
•  Monitor and improve workplace ergonomics to reduce risk of injury during repetitive tasks such as grape sorting, bottling, and labeling.

Sustainability and Continuous Improvement
•  Partner with vineyard and winery teams to integrate sustainability and biodynamic practices into daily operations.
•  Lead initiatives to reduce waste, energy consumption, and environmental impact within the facility.
•  Continuously evaluate safety programs and practices to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Qualifications:
•  Education: Bachelor’s degree or 5 years on the job experience in Winery Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Food Science, or a related field.
•  Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in a health and safety role, preferably in the wine, food, or beverage manufacturing industries.
•  Certifications: OSHA understanding; understanding of CCOF and Demeter certification requirements; HACCP or SQF certification is a plus.

Skills:
•  Strong understanding of FDA regulations, especially as they apply to wine production and storage.
•  Knowledge of organic and biodynamic standards and practices.
•  Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
•  Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
•  Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with winery equipment, chemicals, and fermentation processes.

This non-exempt salaried position is located at the Ackley Brands Winery Headquarters in Prosser, WA.
