We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Gym Teacher to join our vibrant Catholic school community. You will foster a love of physical activity in our students while upholding the Catholic faith and values. Responsibilities Develop and implement a developmentally-appropriate physical education curriculum for elementary grades (typically Pre-K through 6th grade). This curriculum should integrate fitness concepts, basic sports skills, and games while adhering to state standards and the school's philosophy. Ensure a safe and positive learning environment where all students feel comfortable participating. This includes creating clear expectations, providing positive reinforcement, and modifying activities for different abilities. Incorporate Catholic values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect into your lessons. Offer opportunities for students to develop their gross motor skills, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being. Assess student progress through observation and participation. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, teachers, and administration regarding student progress and program goals. Maintain a clean and organized gym space and ensure proper care and storage of equipment. Collaborate with school administration and other faculty members. Participate in professional development opportunities. This may include attending workshops or conferences related to physical education and Catholic education. Qualifications Master's degree or working towards a Master's Degree in Physical Education or a related field. Valid NYS teaching certification for elementary physical education. Experience teaching physical education in an elementary school setting is preferred. Strong knowledge of child development and best practices for teaching physical education. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment. Be a practicing Catholic Commitment to the Catholic faith and its values. Complete a Safe Environment Training program-this training focuses on protecting children from abuse.
