**Responsibilities** The **INTAKE COUNSELOR** is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner. Must have good phone skills and able to work in a fast paced environment. The Intake Counselor screens callers contacting Dignity Health NHMC Behavioral Health via phone for possible admission, or referral to community resources. Coordinates admissions to inpatient services. + Processes telephone inquiries by screening calls for needed intensity of service and caller's insurance coverage.Coordinates clinical assessments performed by Crisis Team or psychiatrists, admissions and referrals to appropriate community resources. + For inpatient admissions the counselor acts as a liaison with the physician, insurance company, business office, U.R. and unit staff. + Maintains good communication with community agencies that refer patients to the Call center. Contributes to the ongoing development of new referral sources. + Maintains effective communication with, and serves as liaison between patient, families, program staff, doctors, Crisis Team and community resources. + **Generates daily reports for Case Management, social service, physicians, and PHP.** + **Assists manager in providing monthly statistical reports on call volume, admission dates, Crisis Team data and referral source activity to determine system effectiveness and marketing strategies.** + **Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.** **Qualifications** + Minimum two years healthcare experience required. + Experience in mental health or addiction medicine setting preferred. + Bachelor's degree in psychology, social service, counseling or a related field preferred. + AS 400, Teletracker, E-Verify, Excel spreadsheets. + Fire Card (within 90 days of hire) required.
