The Opportunity

This role directs all aspects of the MAPS New Product Development Engineering Team. It also ensures that engineering work conforms to high technical and organizational standards. Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company’s engineering and new product development initiatives. Collaborate with team members across the organization and be a strategic problem-solver. Demonstrate excellent communication skills, an ability to connect with other engineers and developers. Drive innovative ideas, solutions, and business processes through leadership and decisive action to support a strategy for growth and continuous improvement. What you'll do

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering for the division, this on-site role will be responsible for the following:

  • Execute the NPD Engineering vision and strategy – work closely with the VP of Engineering and the MAPS Cross Functional NPD team to realize the MAPS Product Roadmap for our customers. Build a deep understanding of products, customer experience, and drivers of revenue growth to develop products and technology that supports this. Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making.
  • Direct New Product Development & Operational Excellence initiatives – Leads the engineering development, design, testing, and then implementation of new products into manufacturing. Drives a Continuous Improvement mindset and provides coaching, training, and support within organization of these initiatives.
  • Engineering Management – Oversees the daily workflow of the NPD development team. Ensures that projects are completed by driving results through the Engineering team. Ensures that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner. Manage and oversee 3rd party vendors along with outsourced engineering services.
  • Collaboration across the organization – Collaborates with leadership, product management, and multiple functions within organization to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and business systems.
  • Direct Operational Excellence Initiatives – Drives a Continuous Improvement mindset and provides coaching, training, and support within organization of these initiatives.
  • Employee Engagement & Development – Encourage positive, supportive and respectful working environment, and lead initiatives to reduce employee attrition. Constantly drive employee development and training to ensure required skillset is readily available and fluctuations in workload can be met.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

A successful candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience with new product development and/or design engineering with sheet metal and plastic product design expertise.
  • At least 3 years of experience at an Engineering Manager level.
  • Shows an excellent track record in New Product Development with sheet metal and plastics.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
