About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nonprofit Controller to provide Virtual Outsourced Controllership services to multiple nonprofit clients. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping mission-driven organizations succeed by ensuring financial stability and compliance. As a key financial leader, you will oversee accounting functions, financial analysis, and strategic planning while mentoring and developing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all operational accounting functions for nonprofit clients, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Conduct monthly remote client meetings focused on financial analysis and strategic planning.
- Review and analyze monthly financial reports prepared by the Outsourced Accountant.
- Act as the primary liaison between clients and their external professional service providers.
- Manage cash flow, including reviewing information and initiating payments for approved bills.
- Participate in and present at client finance committee and board meetings.
- Supervise and provide guidance to client engagement teams.
- Assist in the preparation of operating budgets and financial forecasts.
- Develop and implement controls to mitigate risk and enhance financial accuracy.
- Oversee regulatory reporting, tax planning, and compliance.
- Prepare and analyze complex Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and management reports.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to staff, fostering professional growth and development.
- Contribute to business development by assisting in marketing efforts and strategic planning.
- Monitor and manage client engagement budgets.
What You'll Bring:
- 5-7 years of experience in a finance or accounting role, with a strong background in nonprofit accounting.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Experience in public accounting is a plus.
- Solid understanding of GAAP principles and nonprofit financial management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prepare financial statements, reports, and projections.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

Salary Range: $0.01 - $115,000 per year
Location: Hybrid remote in Madison, WI 53713 (Relocation required before starting work)
