Description

The City of Dixon is recruiting Senior Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor applicants for the 2025 Aquatic Season.

The Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor performs a variety of duties to ensure the City of Dixon swimming pool is a safe and enjoyable aquatic facility. Supervises pool patrons, enforces pool rules, performs first aid and emergency rescues, instructs swim lessons, performs cashiering duties, leads recreational activities; performs related and other work as required.

Staff may be expected to work weekends and on fixed holidays. Those who work on a City Holiday will earn 1 ½ times their base hourly salary.

This position is subject to random controlled substance testing and/or breath alcohol testing.

Exam Process:  Only a limited number of candidates, whose applications indicate that, among those competing, they are better qualified in terms of related experience, will be invited to participate in the recruitment process, which will consist of:

Oral Interview(weighted 100%).

Ideal Candidate

Knowledge and Abilities:The use and care of lifesaving equipment at a public swimming facility; the pool facility operations including scheduling, cash management, maintenance, hazard identification, and program development; demonstrate leadership capabilities; engage in physical activity including but not limited to: swim 300 yards continuously, retrieve a 10 pound diving brick from a depth of 7-9 ft. and tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands;  follow oral and written instructions; ability to oversee, review, and prepare reports related to facility operations;  perform swimming strokes according to American Red Cross standards;  demonstrate lifesaving and emergency first aid skills; work cooperatively with public and employees in an enthusiastic and constructive manner; supervise lifeguards and swim instructor;  explain and interpret safety regulations and operational policies clearly to the public.

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would provide the knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent, highly desirable. Completed 10th grade of High school

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor at an organized aquatic facility assisting with pool management. Staff supervisory experience and attendance at a college or university with major course work in related field is highly desirable.

Other Requirements: 

Must possess the following certificates at time of employment:

  • Current Lifeguard Training Certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Current Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer Certificate
  • Title 22 Certificate

Must be at least 15 years of age by time of employment.

Spanish language skills desirable, incentive offered.

CalPERS Annuitants will be limited to only 960 hours in a fiscal year.

Special Instructions

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:  Temporary/Seasonal Employment

Aquatics Season:May - October 2025 for programs offered at the Pat Granucci Aquatic Center.

Staff can average between 10-40 hours per week based on the season, needs of the program, and staff availability.  Staff may be required to work weekends and holidays.
